The Historical Context Of Princeton's 17-Game Winning Streak

The 17-game winning streak that the Princeton football team put together was one of the great runs in the 150 year history of the program.

In fact, the 17 straight wins tied as the fourth-longest streak Princeton has had, along with winning that many from 1964-65. The only times Princeton won more than 17 straight games were from 1949-52, when the streak was a school-record 24 straight, a run of 19 straight from 1896-97 and a run of 18 straight from 1893-94.

In other words, only once in the last 122 years had Princeton won more games in a row than the current group had, before the streak ended Saturday in a 27-10 loss to Dartmouth at Yankee Stadium.

Princeton's streak, which included a perfect 10-0 record a year ago, featured an average score of 43.5-13.3. Princeton won 14 games by double figures, 11 games by at least 20 points and eight games by at least 30 points.
