Popper and Tagliente Earn Ivy Honors; Princeton Collects 7 All-Ivy Selections

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton Tigers had seven players named All-Ivy, the conference announced today.

Sammy Popper and Carla Tagliente were unanimous selections for Ivy Rookie and Coach of the Year. Popper is the 17th Tiger to be named Rookie of the Year following Julianna Tornetta in 2017. This is Tagliente's second conference Coach of the Year accolade (2017).

Clara Roth, Hannah Davey, Julianna Tornetta and Popper were named first-team All-Ivy. Ali McCarthy and MaryKate Neff were second-team All-Ivy while Grace Baylis was honorable mention All-Ivy.

Roth is a three-time All-Ivy selection who was also Co-Offensive Player of the Year last season. The unanimous honoree set a new personal high with 14 goals and 38 points in 2019. She led all Ivy players in points (2.24) and goals (0.82) per game and was second in assists per contest (.65). Roth posted four multi-goal games highlighted by a hat trick at Brown.

Davey ranked in the top 10 among conference foes in points (fifth, 1.29) and assists (sixth, 0.53) per game. The sophomore, who has earned two all-conference awards, set new career marks in goals (nine) and points (22).

Popper started off 2019 with an impressive two-goal performance on the road against No. 1 North Carolina. She added three more multi-goal outings, collecting 10 tallies and six assists. The freshman has points in six of her last seven games.

A three-time first-team All-Ivy player, Julianna Tornetta paced the Ivies in assists per game (.65). She is tied for sixth in Princeton history with 31 helpers as she added 11 in 2019. Tornetta snagged three assists in a victory over Albany and had a helper in seven other games.

McCarthy was tied for fourth in the Ivy League in goals per game (0.59), posting 10 tallies. She went through a stretch of three consecutive multi-goal games vs. No. 2 Duke, Columbia and Yale. Her 21 points is a seven-point improvement from last season.

MaryKate Neff, another three-time All-Ivy member, had two goals this season including the game-winner vs. Harvard on Oct. 26. She was part of a defensive unit that was second in the Ivy League in goals against average (1.64) and scoring margin (1.52). The junior also had two defensive saves.

Grace Baylis earned honorable mention honors with an 11-4 record and 1.85 GAA along with a .603 save percentage. She also had three shutouts including one on the road vs. No. 11 Delaware on Oct. 1. She now has 50 career wins, good for second in program history while her 16 shutouts are third.

Tagliente's group is 13-4 overall and currently on a ten-game winning streak. The Tigers were undefeated in Ivy action and had six wins over ranked opponents.
