Stephen Carlson Catches First NFL Touchdown Pass
November 15, 2019 | Football
Even for those very familiar with the sight of Stephen Carlson in the end zone with the football, this particular touchdown reception was pretty special.
Carlson, a Cleveland Browns rookie, made the first one of his NFL career in pretty spectacular fashion Thursday night, tightroping the back of the end zone and wrestling the ball away from Pittsburgh Steelers' linebacker Mark Barron to reel in the eight-yard throw from Baker Mayfield. Carlson's TD reception came with less than six minutes left in the fourth quarter and sealed the 21-7 Browns' win.
Carlson finished his Princeton career third all-time in program history in touchdown receptions with 16. He also is eighth all-time in receiving yards at 1,632 and 10th in receptions with 125.
An undrafted free agent, Carlson signed with the Browns as a tight end and impressed from the start of training camp. He spent the first eight games on the practice squad before being activated two weeks ago, and he made his first NFL catch a big one with the touchdown reception against the Steelers on Thursday night.
