Princeton's Defense Leads The Way In 73-42 Takedown Of Hartford

PRINCETON, N.J. – Princeton's defense put the clamps down defensively as it handled the Hartford Hawks, 73-42, at Jadwin Gym on Tuesday night.
The Tigers allowed the Hawks to shoot just 27.6 percent from the floor and didn't allow more than five baskets in any quarter. Princeton had nine players score in the game highlighted by four in double figures.
Head coach Carla Berube's squad sprinted out with 12 of the first 16 points before Hartford closed the gap to three, 12-9, with 3:29 left in the first quarter. A long-range bucket from Maggie Connolly with four seconds remaining gave the home unit a 20-11 advantage after 10 minutes.
Princeton kept Hartford at bay before holding the road team without a point over the final 3:39 of the first half, taking a 31-20 lead into halftime.
Berube's unit put the contest away in the third stanza as it hit five straight shots to open the scoring. A three-pointer by Julia Cunningham extended the lead to 20, 46-26, halfway through as Princeton wasn't challenged the rest of the way. The Tigers finished 8-of-12 shooting (66.7 percent) and hit nine from the charity stripe in the third frame.
Carlie Littlefield led the Tigers with 12 points while Ellie Mitchell, Cunningham and Taylor Baur each had 11 points. The two-time defending Ivy League Champions registered 27 points off of 23 turnovers and had 14 steals.
Jadwin Gym plays host to the Tigers and the Penn State Nittany Lions on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. The game can be streamed on ESPN+ and see on NBC Sports Philadelphia + and SNY.
