December 18, 2019 | Women's Basketball
COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Princeton Tigers' defense stole the show as it held the Missouri Tigers to a program-low 33 points in a 68-33 win at the Mizzou Arena on Wednesday evening.
Â
It's the fourth time in program history that Missouri had been held to just 33 points. The home unit registered just 12 baskets in the game.
Â
Princeton started off with the first 15 points and held Missouri without a basket for the first 5:57 of game action. The road unit allowed just two baskets in the first 10 minutes as it led 15-5.
Â
Missouri closed within eight, 19-11, but Princeton countered with treys from Maggie Connolly and Abby Meyers. Head coach Carla Berube's unit went into the break with 31-15 lead.
Â
Princeton opened up the second half with seven of the first nine, expanding its advantage to 21, 38-17, with 5:48 to go in the quarter. Two free throws from Missouri hardly slowed down the 10-1 Princeton squad. The two-time defending Ivy Champions used a 14-5 sprint to wrap up the third quarter and take a 27-point lead, 51-24, into the final 10 minutes.
Â
Princeton wasn't threated the rest of the way.
Â
Carlie Littlefield led Princeton with 22 points, securing seven rebounds and three steals. Bella Alarie just missed a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds, adding three blocks and two helpers. Ellie Mitchell had 10 rebounds in the win.
Â
Berube's team now sits at 10-1 overall and currently has a six-game winning streak. Missouri fell to 3-9 this year. Princeton finishes off this Midwest trip at St. Louis on Friday. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.Â
