Princeton Rallies to Win ECAC Opener
February 15, 2019 | Men's Tennis
On the courts where Princeton won its ECAC Championship title three years ago at Penn, the second-seeded Tigers fought back to win a 4-3 match over seventh-seeded Yale Friday afternoon.
The Tigers lost the doubles point and split the first two singles matches off court before taking three of the last four, capped by a win from Karl Poling at third, to secure the clinching fourth point. Princeton will advance to face Harvard in a 3 p.m. semifinal Saturday.
"We need to start the match with a much stronger sense of urgency," Princeton coach Billy Pate said. "Yale played inspired and fought us hard. Their guys played extremely well. We didn't play our best at second and third doubles, then followed that by slow starts in singles. However, we're happy to get the win and advance to play Harvard tomorrow."
