No. 5 Clarkson Takes 5-2 Game from No. 6 Princeton
February 22, 2019 | Women's Ice Hockey
No. 6 Princeton battled back from a three-goal deficit to make it a one-goal game in the third period but the Tigers wouldn't be able to get another as the Golden Knights tacked on two empty-net goals for a 5-2 decision.
No. 5 Clarkson took a 2-0 lead in the first 1:31 of the game and grabbed hold of a 3-0 lead 28 seconds into the second.
Junior Carly Bullock redirected a Mariah Keopple shot to light the lamp for Princeton. Bullock is now one point away from her 100th career point.
Freshman Maggie Connors picked up her second point of the evening, converting on a 5x3 opportunity to put the Tigers within one at 6:07 of the third. Senior Karlie Lund and Patty Kazmaier finalist Sarah Fillier earned the assists.
Princeton pulled netminder Stephanie Neatby, who replaced Rachel McQuigge in the game, for the extra attacker but the Golden Knights recovered the puck twice to slot it in.
McQuigge started the game and made eight saves while allowing three goals. Neatby made 13 saves in the relief.
For the first time all season, Princeton drops from first place in the ECAC standings and into second place with 33 points. Cornell takes over first place with 34 points after a win over RPI. Clarkson is in third place with 32 points, Colgate in fourth with 31.
This is also the first time the Tigers have lost two straight since the season opener at No. 1 Wisconsin.
The regular-season finale is at 3 p.m., tomorrow afternoon as the Tigers take on St. Lawrence.
