Tigers Close Season's First Weekend at Liberty

Valparaiso and Liberty picked up wins over the Princeton softball team Sunday at a Liberty-hosted weekend in Lynchburg, Va., with Valparaiso winning 7-0 and host Liberty winning 12-0 in five innings.
Against Valparaiso, rookie Ali Blanchard took a shutout into the fourth inning, but Valparaiso got the bats clicking for two runs in that inning, two more in the fourth and three more in the fifth. Crusaders pitcher Kelsie Packard limited the Tigers to four hits and three walks, striking out seven.
Against Liberty, pitcher Julia DiMartino tossed a perfect game, striking out seven. The Flames jumped on Princeton early, scoring five runs in the first inning and adding two more in the second before pushing the contest into run-rule territory with a five-run fourth.
Princeton will head west to Arizona State next weekend, continuing the season with five games against Arizona State, Texas and Wisconsin.
