Morey Named a Finalist for ECAC Hockey Coach of the Year

Princeton head coach Cara Morey is one of three finalists for the ECAC Hockey Coach of the Year the league announced this afternoon.
Today and throughout the next seven days the league will reveal finalists for its major awards with the announcement of the winners and the all-league teams next Thursday at the ECAC Hockey Championship Banquet.
In her second year as head coach of the Tigers, Morey has taken the team to its highest ranking in program history, fourth, and has already claimed the Ivy League title with a unbeaten 8-0-2 record.
After starting the season 0-2 at No. 1 Wisconsin the Tigers opened the ECAC Hockey season with a sweep of Yale and Brown and never looked back. Princeton was in first place in the conference standings for 16 weeks. The team was undefeated in league play through the first 15 games of the season, at 12-0-3. Princeton itself had a 20-game unbeaten streak which obliterated the previous program record of 12 and stood as the nation's longest unbeaten streak for months.
Princeton has been strong in all areas of play, including special teams. The Tigers lead the nation in power play, converting on 27.2 percent of its chances. Averaging 3.52 goals per game, the fifth best scoring office in the nation, the Tigers also have the best scorer in the nation in Patty Kazmaier top-10 finalist Sarah Fillier. The rookie leads the nation with 1.92 points per game is followed closely behind by Maggie Connors who has 39 points with a team-high 25 goals – the second most per game in the country. The defense has limited teams to 1.97 goals per game, the 10th best scoring defense in the nation. Junior Claire Thompson has been the best two-way player as she third in the nation in points per game for a defender. Princeton has used three capable goaltenders this year with freshman Cassie Reale going a perfect 4-0, junior Stephanie Neatby 4-1-1 and starter Rachel McQuigge going 10-5-4 with a .927 save percentage and a 1.88 goals against average while stringing together a 13-game unbeaten streak.
