March 01, 2019 | Women's Ice Hockey
A day after being named a finalist for the ECAC Hockey Best Forward, Princeton's Sarah Fillier has been named a finalist for the league's Rookie of the Year.
Fillier leads the nation in scoring with 1.92 points per game and is also the leader in assists per game with 1.28 apg. She is 10th in Division I in goals per game averaging 0.62 gpg. Fillier has scored 48 points on 16 goals and 32 assists. She did that, even more impressively, while missing four games to compete for Hockey Canada at the Four Nations Cup. A two-time Hockey Commissioner's Association Rookie of the Month, Fillier was also a two-time ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Month and earned three ECAC Hockey weekly honors. She was named the NCAA First Star of the Week on January 8 and put up a six-game goal-scoring streak of nine points and a nine-game point scoring streak totaling 23 points. Fillier is the first Princeton skater since 2006 to have a five-point game and has 16 games with at least two points. With a +21 on-ice rating, Fillier has won 283 face offs (53.9%) and has blocked 18 shots.
Other finalists for Rookie of the Year include Tanner Gates (Colgate) and Lindsey Reed (Harvard). The winner will be announced next Thursday at the ECAC Hockey championship banquet.
Princeton hosts St. Lawrence this weekend in the ECAC Hockey quarterfinal best-of-three series. The series kicks off Friday at 6 p.m., followed by a 3 p.m., game on Saturday and 3 p.m., Sunday if necessary.
