Derek Cox knows what it's like to be part of a duo. He has a twin brother Erek — sons of Eric and Naomi Cox — so he was plenty comfortable to be part of a Princeton twosome in the final strokes of Friday's 100 breast final.
Of course, he was thrilled to be the one to touch the wall first.
Cox, competing in his first career Ivy League Championships, ignited the Orange and Black section of the crowd by edging Princeton classmate Daniel Arris to win the 100 breast in 53.30. His prelim time of 53.23 now stands as the second-fastest in program history, while Arris' final time of 53.64 is now the fifth-fastest in Princeton history. Those were just two of several times that broke into the Tigers' all-time top 10 — and not the only ones to move into the top two.IVY CHAMPION! That race helped Princeton pull ahead of Penn for second place heading into the final day of the Ivy League Championships. Harvard has control of the team championship race with 1015.5 points, while Princeton stands second with 774.5 points. Penn is third with 730.5, while Yale is fourth with 692.Derek Cox shares thoughts after winning the 100 breast and leading a 1-2 Tiger finish with classmate Daniel Arris. pic.twitter.com/dyONSVEtB6

Princeton got some early points in the 1000 with a pair of swimmers in the top eight. Sophomore Levy Nathan took fourth in 9:05.93, while freshman Brendan Firlie finished eighth in 9:10.81.
The 400 IM provided a rematch from Thursday's 200 IM final, and this time Penn senior Mark Andrew was able to get the better of Princeton freshman Raunak Khosla. Andrew took the win in 3:41.00, while Khosla — who set a program and Ivy Championship record in winning the 200 IIM one night earlier — set another Princeton record when he placed second in 3:42.34.
Senior co-captain Cole Buese moved into second place in Princeton history in the 100 fly when he placed third in the event in 46.71. Junior Derek Cox also moved into the Top 10 with a strong prelim time of 47.33, and he placed eighth in the A final.
Fellow co-captain Murphy McQuet took fourth in the 200 free in 1:35.49, but he moved into second place in the Princeton Top 10 during prelims when he finished in 1:35.18. Buese followed with a sixth-place finish in the 100 back (47.83), and then he led off a 400 medley relay with Cox, Khosla and McQuet that placed fourth overall in 3:11.70.
The final day of the championships will begin with prelims at 11, and then finals will begin at 6 pm. Among the events Saturday night will be the 3-meter diving competition, and both Charlie Minns (third) and Colten Young (fourth) qualified for the final during prelims Friday. Senior Aaron Ach concluded his career by taking seventh in the B final Friday night.
