Princeton Moves On To Ivy Tournament Final With 68-47 Drubbing Of Cornell

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Princeton Tigers pulled away with a dominating third quarter en route to a 68-47 victory over the Cornell Big Red at the Lee Amphitheater on Saturday evening in the Ivy League Semifinal.

It's the third straight season that Tigers advanced to the Ivy Tournament Championship. Just like the previous two seasons, Princeton will take on Penn in the championship matchup. The Quakers won in 2017, but the Tigers took home the crown in 2018.

Bella Alarie missed one shot in 10 attempts, scoring a game-high 21 points. She added eight rebounds, two assists and a block. Gabrielle Rush knocked down 4-of-5 from deep to finish with 12 points while Julia Cunningham had 10 points off the bench in the win.

In front by three (11-8), the Tigers rolled off seven straight points to take a 10-point advantage, 18-8, with 4:01 left in the first quarter. Cornell closed within seven three times, but Princeton held a 25-15 advantage after 10 minutes.

A three-pointer by Cornell's Caitlyn Smith moved the Big Red to as close as six, 27-21, but Alarie countered with a long-range trey on the next possession. The Tigers held a 37-25 advantage at the intermission.

Samantha Widmann scored on a layup at the 9:10 mark of the third quarter for the Big Red (39-27). Cornell would not register another basket until there was 15 seconds remaining in the frame. In that stretch, the Tigers went on a 20-1 run and essentially put the game away.

Princeton led by as many as 34 before settling with a 68-47 final score. The Tigers had 16 assists in the game along with 11 steals and outrebounded Cornell, 34-31. Head coach Courtney Banghart's team was won 11 straight games.

Widmann had 10 points to lead the Big Red in the loss. Cornell finishes at 12-14 overall.
