Alarie Named WBCA Division-I All America Regional Finalist
March 21, 2019 | Women's Basketball
PRINCETON, N.J. – Bella Alarie was selected as a Regional Finalist for the Women's Basketball Coaches' Association (WBCA) Division-I Coaches' All-America honors, the organization announced today.
Â
Alarie is one of 52 candidates for the All-America honors. She is looking to become the third Tiger to be named a WBCA All-American as Niveen Rasheed and Blake Dietrick earned honorable mention accolades in 2013 and 2015.
Â
"This is another well-deserved national honor earned by Bella," said head coach Courtney Banghart. "She is a true two-way player who impacts both sides of the ball with such consistency, versatility, and skill. Her improvement from a year ago is remarkable, as a player, a leader, and a star. She's a true joy to coach and I couldn't be prouder of the career she is continuing to put together."
Â
The two-time Ivy League Player of the Year has been outstanding during her junior campaign. In 22 games this season, Alarie is averaging 23.0 points on 52.6 percent shooting, 10.4 rebounds, 3.3 assists, all career highs. She has 13 double-doubles this season, giving her 33 in 82 career games. She is second in program history in double-doubles, two behind Niveen Rasheed '13. The Bethesda, Md., native is attempting to become the first player since Ellen DeVoe '86 (1984-85) to average a double-double for entire season.
Â
Alarie's first game of the year was outstanding, posting 16 points, 19 rebounds and five blocks vs. Quinnipiac (Dec. 8). Some other non-conference standouts include a 24-point outing vs. Marist (Dec. 15) and an 11-of-18 shooting performance (24 points) along with 11 rebounds at Hartford (Dec. 21). The two-time Ivy Player of the Year began conference action with a double-double vs. Penn (Jan 5), securing 21 points and 17 rebounds. She later set the Ivy League single-game records for points (45) and field goals (20) against Columbia (Feb. 1) and broke the program record for career blocks. For that, she was named USBWA National Player of the Week (Feb. 5) and named to the NCAA.com Starting Five (Feb. 6). The Bethesda, Md., native registered 38 points including her 1,000th career point, 13 rebounds, six steals, four assists vs. Yale (Feb. 8). She later dropped in 41 points and 13 rebounds at Dartmouth (Feb. 16). She finished with eight Ivy Player of the Week awards, setting the career program mark with 17 total.

Princeton will take part in its eighth NCAA Tournament in the last 10 years on Saturday as it battles No. 17 Kentucky (11 a.m.) on ESPN2.
