Sophomore Rylie Pease set the Princeton javelin record as the Tigers began in the 2019 outdoor season today at University of North Florida.
Pease's sixth attempt was launched to 48.01 (157-6) the best throw by a Princeton Tiger. Pease takes down a 27-year record held by Missy Hake '92 who threw a 45.80 (150-3) at the 1991 Ivy Heps. Pease's 48.01 is the seventh best throw in Ivy League history.
That throw positions her 10th in the nation, and is nearly three meters further than her previous best of 45.19 (148-4) from the 2018 Ivy Heps.
Pease led the throwers the entire meet after a 45.59 (149-8) on her first attempt she continued to hit over 40 meters on each attempt. She had throws of 44.44 (145-9), 42.87 (140-7), and 42.87 (140-4) before her best throw.
Freshman Emily Wilson took eighth in her first time competing in the javelin as a Tiger with a 38.24 (125-10).
Another big performance came from junior Ellen Scott-Young. Missing out on competition last season due to an injury, Scott-Young proved she is in prime condition this outdoor season. She finished second in the hammer throw with a 54.73 (179-6), just four centimeters off of her personal best and the fourth best mark in the program, and should have a strong outdoor season.
Day 2 of the meet begins tomorrow at 2 p.m., with the long jump, shot put and high jump.
