Tigers Open Ivy Play, Beat Penn
March 30, 2019 | Men's Tennis
Princeton, now 17-6, won the doubles point thanks to Justin Barki and Bill Duo on court three and Payton Holden and Ryan Seggerman on court one, and the Tigers then saw Duo, Karl Poling and Damian Rodriguez won three of the first four singles matches off court before Holden closed out the day with a win on court six.
"This was an important win for us as we start conference play," Princeton coach Billy Pate said. "Penn has had a good year thus far and it's always a battle. We were fortunate to claw back in doubles to get a 1-0 lead. Nonetheless, we lost four first sets in singles and really had to dig in to regain the momentum. We did a nice job of making adjustments, competing as a unit and playing with positive energy."
The Tigers will return to Lenz, or Jadwin Gym in the event of inclement weather, to face Dartmouth and Harvard next Saturday and Sunday, both 1 p.m. starts.
"Next weekend is a pivotal one for us as we expect similar battles from Dartmouth and Harvard," Pate said. "We had a great crowd today and hope to get another supportive home atmosphere for what promises to be great college tennis matches."
