Tigers Battle Columbia, But Lions Take Pair of One-Run Games

A pair of one-run games went to Columbia over the Princeton softball team Saturday afternoon at the Class of 1895 Field as the Ivy League season continued.

Columbia won the opener 2-1 after the Lions used used a pair of leadoff walks in the fifth to score on the help of a base hit and a ground ball to take the 2-1 lead that ultimately stood up.

Princeton scored its run thanks to a first-inning walk, base hit, ground ball and an error. From there, Columbia pitcher Alexa Pinarski allowed just two walks, two hits and had one error behind her over the last six innings as the Tigers couldn't add to the lead.

Tiger pitcher Ali Blanchard allowed just two hits and walked five, leaving five runners on base in her six-plus innings before Riley Wilkinson retired the Lions in order in the seventh.

In game two, a 5-4 Columbia win, Pinarski returned and worked the first five-plus innings before giving way to Madison Canby. Between the two, Columbia allowed 12 hits and a walk and didn't strike a batter out, but Princeton left 11 runners on base on the game.

The Lions used four base hits and a double to plate four runs in the third, and used two doubles to push the lead back to four runs in the fourth at 5-1 after Princeton got four singles in the bottom of the third but netted just a run on an Allison Harvey base hit. The Tigers had three hits in the fifth to bring home another run, which scored on a Haley Hoffman ground ball, and Princeton cut the deficit to 5-4 on three hits, a ground ball and an error in the sixth with Kaylee Grant and Harvey driving in the runs. Princeton went in order in the seventh in the Tigers' last chance to close the gap.

Megan Donahey and Harvey each had three-hit games in the second game.

Princeton will return to '95 Field Wednesday for a 3 p.m. pair against Rider.
