Tigers, Chang Win Team and Individual Titles at Harvard Invitational
March 31, 2019 | Women's Golf
For the second time in three years, the Princeton women's golf team has won the Harvard Invitational in Florida.
The Tigers were 11 shots better than any other team in the eight-team field in Sunday's final round, finishing at +16 to end up 11 shots in front of co-runners-up Penn and Harvard in a field that included six of the seven Ivy League teams.
Princeton's three-round score of 880 on the par-72, 6,163-yard Orange County National Golf Center Crooked Cat course was its best ever for a three-round event, surpassing the 884 Princeton turned in at Old Dominion's Princess Anne Invitational on a par-70, 5,824-yard course last fall. Princeton had carded 889 at Penn State's Nittany Lion Invitational to open the 2017 fall season on Penn State's par-72, 6,341-yard Blue Course.
Sophomore Anabelle Chang won her first individual title as a Tiger, turning in a below-par card in all three rounds with a pair of 71s Saturday and a 70 Sunday to finish at -4, one stroke in front of junior teammate Maya Walton and Penn's Christina Park at -3. Princeton had three players in the top eight, with rookie Sophie Siminoff finishing at +6 and tied for sixth. Walton had a hole-in-one with a 7-iron on the 137-yard, par-3 sixth hole.
It was Princeton's third stroke-play event title of the 2018-19 year, along with a fall-opening win in Towson's event and a fall-closing win in Brown's event, and Chang's was the second individual title of 2018-19 for Princeton, along with Walton's win at the Towson event.
Princeton also won the Harvard event two years ago on a different course in Florida, at the Oaks Club in Osprey, Fla., but this is Princeton's first individual title at the event.
Princeton's results are below, and results for all teams are available here. The Tigers will compete next at the Match Madness event at Fox Hollow in Branchburg, N.J.
