Alarie and Baur Named Captains for 2019-20 Season
April 17, 2019 | Women's Basketball
PRINCETON, N.J. – Bella Alarie and Taylor Baur have been named captains for the 2019-20 season, head coach Courtney Banghart announced.
Â
"Competitive leadership has been a staple of our program and we are excited for Taylor and Bella to continue that tradition," said Banghart. "Throughout their careers, both have demonstrated an immense love for the game, this University, and their teammates. Taylor is as competitive as they come, willing both herself and her teammates to be better in every way, every day. She is tough, resilient, and has earned the utmost respect and trust from all associated with our program. Bella is unique in the fact that her game and accolades speak for themselves, but, at the same time, she is the ultimate teammate. She is a superstar, and also so truly about the we. She cares deeply about being great, but also about making sure her team reaches greatness. Together, Taylor and Bella are an incredible duo and we are all excited for the competitive season ahead."
Â
Alarie was named a Women's Basketball Coaches' Association (WBCA) Honorable Mention All-American earlier this month. She is just the third Tiger to ever reach that milestone, but the first to do so after her junior campaign. The Bethesda, Md., native broke the team's single-season record for points per game (22.8) while her 210 field goals, 525 points, 65 blocks were the second most, her 408 field goal attempts were fourth highest and 10.6 rebounds were sixth. She became the first player since Ellen DeVoe in 1984-85 to average a double-double for an entire campaign.
Â
"I'm so honored and humbled to be named captain for the 2019-2020 season alongside my classmate and best friend Taylor," stated Alarie. "We are so excited for this opportunity and the chance to lead such a special group of women! I know the future is very bright for this team."
Â
Baur has battled through injuries, but has participated in 42 games in her career. This season, the junior posted career highs in points (4.9), rebounds (4.8), assists (1.1) and minutes per game (15.1). One of her signature moments was her first career double-double at Brown (Mar. 8), posting 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Â
"Being named captain with my best friend Bella is such a huge honor and I couldn't be more excited to take on this role for a team that I love so much," mentioned Baur. "We are so lucky to have had incredible captains during our time here and are ready to carry on their legacies to lead this team!"
