Princeton Releases 2019 Schedule
April 19, 2019 | Field Hockey
Wow.
Â
That's one word to describe the 2019 Princeton Field Hockey schedule. Â
Â
All, but one of the Tigers' non-conference opponent made the NCAA Tournament last season.
Â
Five teams from the Elite Eight will take on Princeton including the three others schools from the Final Four.
Â
Oh, and the lone non-conference foe that didn't make the tournament … the 2016 National Champion Delaware Blue Hens.
Â
"We are very excited for the 2019 season," said head coach Carla Tagliente. "Once again, we have a very challenging non-conference schedule and the Ivy League is coming off a year where we ranked No. 3 in RPI among all conferences. We have an experienced core returning from 2018 that is highly motivated and a very talented incoming freshmen class that is looking forward to competing. It is important maintain the growth mindset that we have embraced and continue to focus on getting better each and every day.
Â
The 2019 season gets underway on the road at the 2018 National Champion North Carolina on Sept. 6. The Tigers battle Wake Forest, one of last year's Final Four participant, two days later (Sept. 8) at North Carolina.
Â
After the trip to UNC, Princeton hosts four straight home matchups against NCAA Tournament squads. Albany (Sept. 13) and Penn State (Sept. 15) is the first weekend with Rutgers (Sept. 18) and UConn (Sept. 22) making the trek to Bedford Field. The Huskies advanced to the Elite Eight last season.
Â
Tagliente's squad will look to avenge the 2018 Final Four loss to Maryland with an excursion to College Park on Sept. 24. Dartmouth opens Ivy League play for Princeton (Sept. 28) before a midweek meeting at Delaware (Oct. 1).
Â
The first weekend in October features a home matchup vs. Yale (Oct. 4) and road contest at Duke (Oct. 6). The next few weeks sees Columbia come to Princeton (Oct. 12) and visits to Brown (Oct. 19) and Boston University (Oct. 20). The Tigers head back to the Boston area for a battle at Harvard (Oct. 26). Princeton rallied for a 2-1 victory over the Crimson last November to earn the trip to the Final Four.
Â
November starts with a home game vs. Cornell (Nov. 3) before the regular season finale at Penn (Nov. 9). The first and second rounds of the 2019 NCAA Tournament take place Nov. 15 and Nov. 17 with the Final Four the week after (Nov. 22, Nov. 24). Â
