The Princeton men's and women's track & field teams have planned an international trip to Italy this June. Seventy-four student-athletes and staff are scheduled to leave the US for Rome on June 15, for a week-long trip that involves sightseeing, community service and competition.
"Both our men's and women's track and field/cross country programs are excited by this unique opportunity to tour and compete in the historic and beautiful country of Italy," William M. Weaver Jr. '34 Head Coach of Men's Track & Field Fred Samara said. "Both Michelle Eisenreich and I would like to thank the many members of the Friends of Princeton Track for making this trip possible."
The Tigers will compete in two meets, one in Rome on June 19 and another in Milan on June 22.
The first meet on June 19 will be conducted by FIDAL Lazio and will be held at the Paolo Rosi Stadium.
While in Rome, the team will tour Rome including the Coliseum, the Vatican and St. Peter's Basilica.
A trip to Florence via high speed train is in store as well with a tour of city center including the Accademia Museum and the Statue of David, before continuing on to Milan. After seeing the sites, including a visit to the famed Leonardo da Vinci painting The Last Supper, the Tigers will compete in their second meet.
On June 22 Athletic Elitè will hold a meet at the Centro Sportivo XXV Aprile Stadium.
This is the fourth international trip for the Princeton track & field teams. The Tigers visited China in 2007, Greece in 2011 and Cuba in 2015.
