
Eight Tigers Qualify for NCAA East Regional

Eight members of the Princeton women's track & field team have qualified for the 2019 NCAA East Regional it was announced by the NCAA this afternoon as the declared athletes were posted. The East Regional will be held in Jacksonville, Fla., on the campus of the University of North Florida on May 23-25. Princeton is not stranger to the facility, having started the outdoor season there in March.
Senior Jackie Berardo makes her return to the Regional in the 800 meters. She ran a PR of 2:06.34 at the Larry Ellis Invitational in April to move into fourth place on Princeton's all-time top-10. She also competed at the NCAA Regional in 2017. The first round will be on Thursday at 8:10 p.m. The top three times from each of six heats plus the next six best times advance to the Friday's quarterfinal.
Two Tigers will race in the 1500 with sophomore Sophie Cantine and senior Madison Offstein qualifying. Cantine ran a PR of 4:22.29 at the Raleigh Relays and was fifth at the Ivy Heps in the event. Offstein ran her best time last weekend at the ECAC Championships, a 4:22.65. The first round of the 1500 is at 5:30 on Thursday. The top five from each of four heats plus the next four best times move on to the quarterfinal on Saturday.
Another senior making her first appearance the Regional is Carly Bonnet in the 400 meter hurdles. The Ivy League runner-up in the event, Bonnet posted a PR of 59.12 to take second just two weeks ago at Ivy Heps to move into second place on Princeton's top 10. Bonnet and the intermediate hurdles is the first event on the track at 4:30 p.m., on Thursday. The top three from each of six heats plus the next best six times advance to the quarterfinal round on Friday.
Senior Allie Klimkiewicz has raced in two NCAA Cross Country Championships but will compete in the Regionals for the first time and qualified in two events, both the steeplechase and the 5k. She has spent the outdoor season continuing to shave time off in every successive meet. She ran a PR of 10:16.12 at the Larry Ellis Invite in April and was fifth at Ivy Heps. The quarterfinal will be the final event on Day 2, at 8:20 p.m., on Friday. The top three from each of three heats plus the next three best times advance to the semifinal in Austin.
The 5k will be held on Saturday at 8:05 p.m. The top five from each of two heats plus the next two best times will advance to the semifinal. Klimkiewicz posted a PR of 16:24.77 from the Raleigh Relays in March and was fourth in the 5k at the Ivy Heps.
After beginning the season throwing the Princeton record in the javelin, sophomore Rylie Pease looks to end strong as well as she qualifies in the event for the second consecutive season. Pease has a PR of 48.01 (157-6) which she threw at this very venue in March at the North Florida Spring Break Invite. The Ivy League champion has the first event of the Regional as the javelin starts at noon on Thursday. The top 12 will advance to the championships in Austin.
Sophomore Obiageri Amaechi makes her return to the Regional in the discus. She has the third best throw in the region with a 57.95 (190-1) which is also an Ivy League and Princeton record. The Ivy League champion reached the NCAA final last year, making podium with a seventh-place finish and first-team All-America honors. The discus will be held at noon p.m., on Friday, with the top 12 advancing to the Championship
