COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Bella Alarie was named to the USA Basketball 2019 Pan American Games Team, the organization announced today.
Â
Trials to select the 12-member team took place this past weekend (May 16-20) at the United States Olympic Training Center. The 35 athletes were separated into four teams to finish the trials and Alarie's squad finished in first place.
Â
"This was probably, in the three years of being on this committee, the most well-rounded, competitive, good-spirited group we've had," said Jennifer Rizzotti, chair of the USA Basketball Women's Junior National Team Committee. "They really rose to the occasion in terms of coming out here, representing themselves and their school in the right way. They made it really hard for us, it was hard to cut some of those last kids, because they could easily be on this team. But, I'm really proud of the way they competed, and they treated each other as competitors. Some of them play together some of them play against each other and they stepped on the floor every day and gave it their best shot."
Â
The team members will return to Colorado Springs for training camp July 23-Aug. 5, before competing in the women's basketball tournament at the 2019 Pan American Games from Aug. 6-10 in Lima, Peru.
Â
Earlier this month, the two-time Ivy League Player of the Year was invited by USA Basketball to play in the organization's 3-on-3 National Championships in Las Vegas where Alarie's unit reached the semifinals.
Â
In 2017, the junior helped U-19 2017 FIBA World Cup Team to a silver medal.
