Holden, Seggerman Upset Nation's No. 4-Ranked Team at NCAA Doubles Tournament
May 21, 2019 | Men's Tennis
Holden's and Seggerman's win is the first for Princeton in the tournament since Kyle Kliegerman '01 and John Portlock '01 beat Tennessee's Adam Carey and Mark Parsons to open the 2001 event.
"I'm proud for these guys to advance and get another opportunity tomorrow," Princeton coach Billy Pate said. "It was a high-quality match and UNC Asheville has a sensational team that is worthy of their national ranking. We started somewhat slow but that had a lot to do with Asheville's play. We settled in during the second set while focusing in on making first serves and hitting return targets. Both Ryan and Payton played clutch on key points in the third-set tiebreak."
Holden and Seggerman will face 35th-ranked Murkel Dellien and Marius Frosa of Wichita State in a round-of-16 match to be played Wednesday at 4 p.m. Live video will be available here, and the bracket is here.
