Amaechi Punches Ticket to NCAA Championships

Sophomore Obiageri Amaechi is heading back to the NCAA Track & Field Championships!
Amaechi advances for the second straight year in the women's discus after placing seventh at the NCAA East Regional today with a 53.62 (175-11). She had her best throw on her first attempt, had a foul on her second attempt and released a 53.19 (174-6) on her final throw.
The Ivy League and Princeton record holder in the event, Amaechi has a PR of 57.95 (190-1).
She was seventh at the NCAA Championships last year to earn first-team All-America honors. Amaechi will shoot for another spot on the podium in Austin, Texas on June 8.
Senior Jackie Berardo finished her Princeton career in the quarterfinals of the women's 800 meters. Berardo advanced out of the first round yesterday with a PR of 2:05.73 – recording the best split time on the last lap.
Today she posted a 2:11.68 (1:01.17, 1:10.52) to finish seventh in heat 1 and 21st overall.
Her 2:05.73 from yesterday moves her into fourth on Princeton's all-time top-10 list in the 800.
In the final women's event on the day, senior Allie Klimkiewicz tackled the steeplechase – the first of two events she has qualified in. She clocked a 10:37.56 (40.67, 1:21.45, 1:22.18, 1:24.69, 1:26.77, 1:28.38, 1:29.08, 2:24.38) to finish 14th in heat 2 and 37th overall.
Klimkiewicz competes again tomorrow in the 5k semifinal. She is in section 1 that begins at 8:05 p.m. Sophie Cantine will be in section 2 of the women's 1500 quarterfinal at 6:30 p.m. The top 5 in each section plus the next two fastest will advance to Austin.
