Princeton in Second Place after Day 1 of Ivy Heps

Princeton is in second place after Day 1 of the 2019 Ivy League Heptagonal Championships, getting 32 points from its field athletes after five events have been completed.
One of the biggest highlights of the day came from sophomore Alexandra Munson and freshman Hanne Borstlap in the pole vault. Munson who entered the meet with a PR of 3.65 and has never competed in an Ivy Heps wowed with a second-place finish and a personal best of 3.85 (12-7.5). She was over 3.60 on her second attempt, over 3.70 on her first and was up and over both 3.80 and 3.85 on her third attempts at both. The 3.85 puts Munson on Princeton's top-10 list, coming in at sixth. Borstlap tied for fourth with a 3.70 (12-1.5).
Princeton grabbed another 13 points in the discus with sophomore Obiageri Amaechi repeating as Ivy League champion. Amaechi, who has rewritten the Ivy League and Princeton records books since arriving on campus did so again today with an Ivy League and Princeton record of 57.95 (190-1) for the win. She also had throws of 56.43, 56.37, 56.33, 55.30 and 54.17. The 57.95 moves Amaechi up into sixth place in the NCAA.
Sophomore Julia Harisay took fifth place and freshman Jalah Morris was sixth. Harisay had a career day with a 44.93 (147-5) and Morris had a 42.87 (140-7). Freshman Luisa Chantler Edmond was one place out of scoring with a PR of 42.83 (140-6).
Junior Ellen Scott-Young started Ivy Heps taking second place in the hammer throw. She saved her best for last as her final throw of 56.92 (186-9) gave her the eight points for second place. She also had throws of 56.23, 55.30, 54.70, 52.59.
All four Tigers in the 1500 prelims advance to tomorrow's final. Sophomore Sophie Cantine had the top time for the Tigers with a 4:23.96 (51.97, 1:12.29, 1:11.67, 1:08.05) as she took heat 1 out strong. Senior Anna Jurew ran a PR of 4:26.05 (51.83, 1:12.55, 1:13.73, 1:08.35), senior Madison Offstein clocked 4:26.34 (52.64. 1:12.31, 1:11.76, 1:09.65) ad junior Madeleine Sumner ran a season-best 4:27.00 (51.15, 1:12.60, 1:13.18, 1:09.64).
Senior Ellie Randolph posted the best time in the 100 hurdles prelims with a PR of 13.76. Her time is the second fastest in Princeton history.
Junior Heide Baron will represent Princeton the 400 as she qualified with a PR of 55.75. That ties her for eighth on Princeton's top 10 list along with Betty Newsam '84.
Senior Jackie Berardo will run for the 800 championship tomorrow. She had the third fastest time today with a 2:08.36. She was in second place after the first lap with a 1:03.29 and ran a 1:05.07 to finish in first place in heat 3.
Senior Carly Bonnet ran a PR of 59.12 in the 400 hurdles – the second fastest time on the afternoon – to advance to tomorrow's final. It is the second fastest time in Princeton history as she jumps three others from fifth.
Senior Frances Lodge is in third place after Day 1 of the heptathlon with 2,929 points. She was second in the shot put (10.70), third in the 200 (26.19) and was fifth in both the 100-meter hurdles (15.21) and high jump (1.62). Sophomore Lindsey Schmidt is in fifth place with 2,906 points. She was second in the high jump (1.68), fourth in the hurdles (15.19), sixth in the shot put (10.01) and seventh in the 200 (26.79).
Day 2 begins at 11 a.m., with the continuation of the hepthatlon. The first final is the shot put at noon and steeplechase at 12:30 p.m.
