Four Tigers Selected for Hockey Canada National Development Camp
July 18, 2019 | Women's Ice Hockey
Four members of the Princeton women's hockey team along with two from the coaching staff have been chosen by Hockey Canada to attend the BFL National Women's Development Team Selection Camp.
Rising sophomores Maggie Connors and Sarah Fillier, along with goaltender Rachel McQuigge and rising senior defender Claire Thompson have each been invited. Princeton head coach Cara Morey and assistant coach Courtney Birchard-Kessel will serve as assistant coaches with Hockey Canada.
The National Rookie of the Year, Fillier was a part of the national team last year when Canada took silver at the Four Nations Cup in November. She was the NCAA leading scorer with 57 points in 29 games, averaging 1.97 points per game, collecting at least one point in 24 of her 29 games.
Connors makes her return to the Development Camp for the second straight year, after making the team a year ago. She has been involved with Hockey Canada since 2015. Last year at Princeton Connors was second in the nation in goals per game and was 10th in points per game with 1.34 ppg. She led the nation in power-play goals and had 16 multiple-point games.
Thompson and McQuigge make their debut at the camp. Thompson was a first-team all-ECAC Hockey selection last year with 28 points. She ranked sixth in the nation in points per game for defesemen and blocked 51 shots. McQuigge was Princeton's starting goaltender last year and had a 13-game unbeaten streak, finishing 10-5-4.
The camps will take place Aug 2-11 at the Markin MacPhail Centre at WinSport's Canada Olympic Park in Calgary. The 45 invitees will be split into two teams to participate in practices, intrasquad games, off-ice training, fitness testing and classroom sessions. The camp will also include a team of U SPORTS all-stars, as well as national teams from France and Japan.

Princeton opens its season on Friday, Oct. 25 when it hosts Syracuse at Hobey Baker Rink at 6 p.m. Admission is free.
