LINZ-OTTENSHEIM, AUSTRIA – The Shea Rowing Center will once again be epitomized on rowing's biggest stage … this time at the 2019 World Rowing Championships from August 25-Sept. 1.
The World Rowing Championships are doubling as the main qualifying event for the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games and will feature over 1,200 athletes from 80 countries.
The Princeton Boathouse will have 11 alums participating in this event in Tyler Nase '13 (United States Lightweight 1x), Margaret Bertasi '14 (United States Lightweight 2-), Michaela Copenhaver (Glaeser) '11 (United States Lightweight 4x), Erin Reelick '16 (United States 8+), Gevvie Stone '07 (United States 2x), Nick Mead '17 (United States 8+), Patrick Eble '16 (United States 8+), Marty Barakso '16 (Canada 8+), Fred Vystavel '16 (Denmark 4-), Tom George '18 (Great Britain 8+), Tim Masters '15 (Australian 8+), John Parker '89 (FISA Coach).
"It's thrilling to see so many Princeton alums representing their countries at this year's World Championships," said Princeton heavyweight head coach Greg Hughes. "We have athletes from all four of our programs racing and I think that speaks to the success of the Princeton boathouse as a whole."
Tyler Nase was an Olympian for the U.S. squad that was fifth at the 2016 Rio Games while Gevvie Stone is looking for her third Olympic qualification. Stone picked up a silver medal in 2016. Reelick, George and Masters all won medals at last year's World Championships.
