Maryland Tops Tigers, 3-0
September 15, 2019 | Women's Soccer
A pair of goals in the first 20 minutes helped Maryland take control of Sunday's visit from the Princeton women's soccer team, and the Terrapins never gave back that control in a 3-0 win.
The game was Princeton's last road non-conference game of the regular season, with Princeton coming home to face Villanova Thursday and William & Mary Sunday before the Ivy League season begins.Â
Maryland's Alyssa Poarch scored in the fifth and 17th minutes to give Maryland that 2-0 lead, and Emily McNesby added an 81st-minute goal for the eventual 3-0 final.Â
Maryland outshot Princeton 13-10 for the game and 10-1 on goal with Tiger keeper Natalie Grossi making seven saves.
Postgame Notes
• The game was the teams' first meeting since 1995. Maryland now leads the series 3-1-1.
• Kamryn Loustau made her first career start and became the fourth Tiger freshman to start a game this season.Â
• Keeper Natalie Grossi will take her bid for the Ivy League record for career shutouts, which stands at 29, into a three-match homestand that begins Thursday against Villanova before continuing Sunday, Sept. 22 against William & Mary and Saturday, Sept. 28 in the Ivy opener against Yale. Grossi has 28 career shutouts.
