Waterhouse Leads Tigers to Runner-up Finish at Yale
September 29, 2019 | Men's Golf
Led by a third-place finish from junior Guy Waterhouse, the Princeton men's golf team finished second at Yale's MacDonald Cup behind winner Minnesota.
Princeton has competed in the MacDonald Cup seven times this decade, and the runner-up finish is the best for Princeton since the Tigers finished second in 2011.
The Tigers led five Ivy teams in the field, with host Yale third, Penn fifth, Harvard seventh and Brown 12th in the 12-team event. All seven Tigers, including six in the play-six, count-four format plus one individual, finished in the top 31 in a tournament that saw 75 players complete all three rounds. Max Ting eagled the par-5 16th in the Tigers' first eagle of the tournament.
Minnesota won the event a -10 with a 24-stroke edge on the runner-up Tigers, who were six strokes in front of third-place Yale. The Gophers had the top two finishers individually, with Angus Flanagan at -6 and Evan Long at -3. Waterhouse was the only other player under par, at -1.
The Tigers will split the squad for their next round of tournaments, competing in the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate at Alabama and the Loyola (Md.)-hosted Hamptons Intercollegiate on Long Island, both scheduled for Oct. 7-8.
