US National Team Tryout Camp Invitees
In preparation for the 2021 World Lacrosse Women's Championships, US Lacrosse has invited 50 players to the official tryout camp which serves as the selection process for Team USA. Princeton's Marge Donovan '22 is the lone Ivy Leaguer among the invitees.
The U.S. coaching staff has invited 13 defenders to camp which will be held Dec. 4-6 at US Lacrosse's headquarters in Sparks, Md., each looking to secure a spot on Team USA for the World Championships which are scheduled for July 7-17 at Towson University in Maryland.
"We're excited for Marge to have this opportunity to represent her country," said head coach Chris Sailer. "Princeton has a long tradition of sending players to play for their country, it is one of the highest honors any athlete can achieve. Marge has played a huge role for us over the last three years and I can't wait to see her take her game to the next level with Team USA."
Over the years, Princeton has had alumni compete for the United States, Canada, England, Ireland and Israel in international competition with Nonie Andersen (Ireland) and Olivia Hompe (Engalnd) most recently doing so in 2017. Holly McGarvie was the last Tiger to earn a spot on the U.S. Senior National Team, doing so from 2008-13.
The United States has won the last three World Lacrosse championships (2009, 2013 and 2017) and has won a record eight World Cups since the championship was first contested in Nottingham, England in 1982.
A record 30 nations are expected to compete in the 2021 championship at Towson University. This is the first time the women's world championship has been held in the United States since 2005.
