Richmond Aririguzoh ’20 Signs Professional Contract With Horsens IC
November 16, 2020 | Men's Basketball
PRINCETON, N.J. – Princeton University men's basketball 2020 graduate Richmond Aririguzoh is set to begin his professional basketball career, signing a contract with Horsens Idræts Basketball Club.
.
"I'm so pleased that Richmond is starting his professional career," said Franklin C. Cappon-Edward G. Green '40 Head Coach Mitch Henderson. "He personified what it means to get better every day while with us here and I know he will bring that same approach to his team in Denmark."
Horsens IC is based in Horsens, Denmark, and plays in the Basketligaen, the highest professional basketball league in the country.
"I equate signing my first professional contract to the feeling I felt from the transition to college basketball from high school," said Aririguzoh. "Not a lot of people are able to do this in terms of sheer percentages, so I'm really blessed to have been able to progress my game forward to a point where I'm in this situation. A lot of that had to do with how I was able to develop once I got to Princeton and how the coaching staff prepared me to be the best version of myself regardless of the goals and how that ultimately has helped put me in the position I'm in right now. I feel the same way I felt after getting to college from high school, which means it's just work now. How can I distinguish myself at this level? I look forward to figuring that out and putting in the work."
A two-time All-Ivy League honoree, Aririguzoh led the nation in true shooting percentage (.721 percent) in and was named to the Ivy League All-Tournament Team in 2018-19. His career field goal percentage of .636 ranks second all-time in school history, while he also holds the second-highest single season shooting percentage in school history when he shot .693 percent in 2018-19. Aririguzoh had a penchant for clutch plays at Princeton, knocking down game-winning free throws against No. 17 Arizona State University in the Tigers' 67-66 win on Saturday, December 29, 2018, and in Princeton's 70-69 win over Harvard University on Saturday, February 1 2020. He ended his career as a Tiger with 755 points, 437 rebounds, 117 assists and 53 blocks.
Along with his individual accolades, Aririguzoh was also part of the Tigers' 2016-17 team that went 14-0 in Ivy League play, won the Ivy League title and made it to the NCAA Tournament.
