Men's Tennis Downs Dartmouth 4-1, Finishes Third at ECAC Championship
February 16, 2020 | Men's Tennis
ITHACA, N.Y. – The Princeton University men's tennis team earned a third-place finish at the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship (ECAC) Sunday, defeating Ivy League foe Dartmouth College 4-1 at the Reis Tennis Center on the campus of Cornell University.
"Today was a quality win over a Dartmouth team that has beaten some strong nationally-ranked teams this year," said head coach Billy Pate. "It's always a tough match with them and today was no different. I was happy to see Ryan and Karl come through in pressurized situations against tough players. It was a valuable weekend for us to play three highly competitive matches and finding ourselves in a battle in each of them. We were able to grow as a team and improve for the next slate of matches at the Blue Gray."
Doubles
Princeton started the match off on a high note, winning the doubles point. At No. 1, eighth-ranked Ryan Seggerman and Payton Holden took down No. 30 David Horneffer and Charlie Broom then at the No. 3 position, Karl Poling and Bill Duo defeated Dan Martin and Pierce Widdecombe, 6-4.
Singles
While Princeton fell at the No. 1 position, Will Peters bounced back with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Alejandro Quiles at No. 4. At No. 2, Seggerman went to three with Martin and came out on top 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 then at the No. 4 position, Karl Poling overcame No. 97 Charlie Broom 5-4, 5-7, 6-3.
