Kazmaier Award Feature on Sarah Fillier
Sarah Fillier, who has already built a successful career with the Princeton women's hockey program before her time on campus is half complete, has been named to the top-10 finalist list for college women's hockey's top honor for the second consecutive year.
Fillier is one of the 10 finalists for the Patty Kazmaier Award, given since 1998 to the top player in college women's hockey. A Princeton player has never won the honor named for alumna Patty Kazmaier '86, who passed away in 1990 at age 28 from a rare blood disease and is the daughter of Princeton Heisman Trophy winner Dick Kazmaier '52.
It's the fourth time in the last five years Princeton has had a top-10 finalist, with Fillier in 2019 and Kelsey Koelzer '17 in 2016 and 2017.
Fillier is the team's points (43) and assists (27) leader on the season and recorded her 100th career point last Friday night at St. Lawrence. At 100 points and 62 assists, she is on pace to threaten Princeton's career points (218) and assists (122) records by the time her college career is complete.
Fillier's freshman season saw her honored as the AHCA National Rookie of the Year and a second-team All-America, the ECAC Rookie of the Year, the Ivy League Player and Rookie of the Year, and the USCHO National Rookie of the Year, all-rookie teamer and second-team All-America.
Assured of home ice for the first round of the ECAC Hockey League playoffs (tickets available here), Fillier and the Tigers will wrap up the regular season this weekend hosting Brown Friday at 6 and Yale Saturday at 3.
