Weekend Look-Back: No. 6 Princeton Sweeps, Gets Set for ECAC Playoffs
February 23, 2020 | Women's Ice Hockey
With a weekend sweep of Brown and Yale, the sixth-ranked Princeton women's hockey team clinched the second seed in the ECAC Hockey League playoffs to begin Friday.
Princeton will face seventh-seeded Quinnipiac in the ECAC best-of-three quarterfinals Friday, Saturday, and Sunday if necessary with a 3 p.m. start each day. Tickets are available here.
Princeton will aim to make the ECAC semifinals for the third time in four years. Since the current playoff format began in 2002, Princeton has won the best-of-three quarterfinal series four times, in 2003, 2006, 2017 and 2019. Princeton will be hosting the quarterfinal series for the fourth time in five years (2016, 2017, 2019, 2020). This will be Princeton's 18th quarterfinal series in the 19 years of the current format - the only missed year was 2013 - and Princeton's series has gone the distance just four times, in 2008, 2016, 2017 and 2018.
The quarterfinal series will also give Princeton a chance to break the program wins record it tied with Saturday's 22nd win of the season to equal the 2015-16 team. Princeton's 260 points this season are the eighth-most in program history, its 104 goals are tied for the sixth-most, and its 156 assists are the sixth-most.
The weekend saw senior Carly Bullock become the ninth player in program history to hit 150 career points as she scored seven points over the two games, earn her first hat trick since October 2018 and the third of her career, and put in five goals over the weekend. Bullock's 91 career goals are fifth in program history, five out of fourth, and her 26 goals this season are tied for 11th-most.
Senior classmate Claire Thompson stands fifth in program history in career points by a defenseman, with 84 and seven points out of fourth. Fellow senior Stephanie Neatby moved into a fourth-place tie over the weekend with 41 career wins, and she remained on 12 career shutouts, tied for fourth. Neatby's 1,823 saves are fifth in program history.
Sophomore Sarah Fillier's 65 career assists are 12th in program history, just one assist out of 10th, and her 30 helpers this season are tied for seventh.
