Men’s Track & Field Tied Second After Day One at Heps

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Princeton University men's track & field team is tied for second after an impressive first day at the Ivy League Heptagonal Indoor Track & Field Championships where the Tigers earned a pair of second-place finishes and qualified numerous athletes for tomorrow's finals.
The Tigers, along with the University of Pennsylvania, are tied for second with 24 points. Both Princeton and the Quakers trail Harvard University by only a point,
Aviram Shwarzbard earned a second-place finish in the long jump after a leap of 7.32 meters. He just missed out on the top spot, as the winner posted a mark of 7.32 meters.
Simen Guttormsen also earned a second-place finish in the pole vault, clearing 5.25 meters.
In the 3,000 meters, Ed Trippas finished third with a time of 8:29.59 seconds and Camren Fischer took fifth with a time of 8:29.59.
Andrei Iosivas also put himself in a strong position in the heptathlon as he sits in first place with a total of 3244 points. He finished first in the 60 after earning a PR of 6.90, besting his previous PR of 6.94. Iosivas also won the long jump after a leap of 7.31 meters and finished second in the shot put with a PR of 13.78 meters, topping his previous PR of 3.77 meters. He also finished second in the high jump after clearing 1.91 meters, besting his previous PR of 1.89 meters.
The Tigers nabbed two out of the top three spots in tomorrow's 60 hurdles final; Joey Daniels will enter as the top seed with a time of 7.85 and Christian Brown will be the No. 3 seed after his time of 7.99.
Three from Princeton also advanced to the final of the 60 dash including Justice Dixon, who enters as the top seed with a time of 6.79, which beat his previous of 6.80 and was the third-fastest time in school history. Greg Sholars had the third-fastest prelim time of 6.81, topping his previous PR of 6.83, and Simang'aliso Ndhlovu had the fourth-fastest time of 6.83.
Princeton also had three runners finish inside the top-10 of the mile prelim as David Krahn was second in 4:14.87, Connor Nisbet fourth in 4:15.82 and Sebastian Fisher eighth in 4:17.49.
A pair of Tigers also advanced to the final of the 400; Michael Phillippy will enter as the No. 2 seed with a time of 48.92 and Klaudio Gjetja enters as the No. 6 seed after clocking in at 49.44.
Two Tigers also moved on to tomorrow's final in the 200 as Dixon finished in 21.92, the second-fastest prelim time, and Sholars third in 22.08.
Ethan Reese advanced to the final of the 800 and posted the eighth-fastest prelim time of 1:54.51.
