Shvets Knocks Off Nation's #1 Player As No. 17 Women’s Tennis Upends No. 6 Pepperdine, 4-0

CHICAGO – The No. 17 Princeton University women's tennis team concluded its time at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Indoor Championships on a high note Sunday, as the Tigers defeated No. 6 Pepperdine University 4-0 and No. 34 Brianna Shvets took down the nation's top-ranked player Ashley Lahey at the XS Tennis Village.
No. 34 Shvets pulled off her incredible victory over No. 1 Lahey with a final score of 6-4, 6-4 as she helped the Tigers overcome the nation's sixth-ranked team.
Doubles
Princeton was able to secure the early advantage by winning the doubles point. At the No. 1 position, Grace Joyce and Daria Frayman overcame Jessica Failla and Lahey while at No. 3 Shvets and Nathalie Rodilosso defeated Daria Zucker and Lisa Zaar, 6-2.
Singles
The Tigers momentum from doubles carried over into singles as No. 34 Shvets first earned a 6-4, 6-4 victory over No. 1 Lahey at the No. 1 position then Joyce would overcome Brune Olsen 6-0, 7-6 (4-0) at No. 4. At No. 3, No. 71 Howard took down #36 Iamachkine 6-4, 6-3 to clinch the win for Princeton.
