Weekend Look-Back: No. 6 Princeton Closes In on ECAC Home Ice
February 09, 2020 | Women's Ice Hockey
With just two weekends left in the ECAC Hockey League regular season, the sixth-ranked Princeton women's hockey team's place in the ECAC playoffs is secure, and the chance to play at home for the first round is almost there.
The Tigers are seven points up on fifth-place Yale and just one win away from clinching home ice in the first round after sweeping RPI and Union to extend their unbeaten streak to nine games.
Princeton got big games from two of its leading scorers on the season in senior Carly Bullock and Sarah Fillier. Against RPI, Fillier had a goal and two assists to get a point on all three Tiger goals in the 3-1 win, and against Union, Bullock was in on all three goals by scoring two and assisting on one in the 3-0 shutout. Fillier had a goal and an assist to make it five points on six goals for the weekend.
With the weekend, Bullock, Fillier and senior Stephanie Neatby moved closer to climbing another place on Princeton career charts or reaching a milestone. Bullock's 85 career goals have her seventh on Princeton's all-time list and two goals out of sixth, and her 141 career points have her a point out of 10th.
Neatby made 17 saves against RPI to reach 1,782 for her career, just five saves out of fifth. Fillier's five points moved her to 99 for her career as she closes in on triple digits.
As a team, the Tigers moved a win closer in their pursuit of the program's wins record. Now at 19 wins, the 2019-20 Tigers are a win from becoming the seventh team in program history to reach 20 wins, and the team is just three victories away from tying the 2015-16 squad with a program-record 22 wins.
Princeton will take its pursuit of clinching home ice to St. Lawrence and Clarkson Friday and Saturday. The Saints, in eighth place with 16 points, are aiming to stay in playoff position, now three points in front of ninth-place Union. Clarkson, in third place with 26 points, is four points ahead of fifth-place Yale in the race for first-round home ice.
