Benedikter Highlights Great Weekend For Princeton At The 2020 European U-23 Rowing Championships

DUISBURG, Germany – Floyd Benedikter '23 highlighted a great weekend of racing for the Shea Rowing Center as he captured the gold for Germany's 8+ boat at the 2020 European U-23 Rowing Championships.
Benedikter (Heavyweights) and his German teammates raced out to a time of 5:44.40, more than three seconds ahead of Romania. Italy took home the bronze, crossing the finish line at 5:48.60. Jelmer Bennema (Heightweights) and the Netherlands were fourth (5:50.78)
8+ Race
Greta Jaanson '23 (W1X) (Open Rowing) helped Estonia to fifth in the WX1X Final (8:06.16), finishing behind Greece, Germany, Russia and Ireland.
Eoin Gaffney '23 (Men's Lightweights) secured fifth in the LM4X Final with Ireland (6:13.31), placing behind France, Italy, Germany and Turkey.
David van Velden '25 (Men's Lightweights) led Netherlands LM2X to the fastest pace in the B-Final (6:32.46), 2.7 seconds in front of Spain.
Anne du Croo de Jongh '25 (Open Rowing) nabbed third in B-race (7:35.66) to collect ninth overall in the 2- races.
"It was great to see six Princeton Tigers in action this past weekend," said Heavyweights Associate Head Coach Matt Smith. "All these athletes faced serious challenges, but have overcome them and we are so happy they were able to race. They are all very young and it is apparent that they have a bright future ahead of them. We can't wait to see them all in the Shea Rowing Center again."
