Princeton's women's cross country team will head into Heps on a high note following a dominant win on its home course at the Princeton Invitational. The Tigers had five to the top 12 finishers, scoring 39 points -- 60 ahead of second-place Dartmouth -- to secure the team title at the meet.
Freshman Fiona Max was the individual champion, placing first in a time of 21:16.4 over the 6K course. Her margin of victory was over five seconds in front of second place and 11.1 seconds ahead of the third-place finisher.
Lucca Fulkerson was seventh (21:44.2) and Abby Loveys (21:49.6) was eighth to round out the three Tigers in the top 10. Gillian Wagner was 11th in 21:55.7, while Caroline Timm was 12th in 21:56.4.
Just missing out on scoring for the team were Lexi Allen (14th; 21:59.7), Angie Allen (15th; 22:06.7), and Tsion Yared (18th; 22:12.0) who were all inside the top-20.
"I am very pleased with the effort of our group today," said head coach Brad Hunt. "Of the 10 runners competing, eight were freshmen or sophomores coming off their first true experience dealing with mid-terms and our peak season. They responded well, and have set a good tone for the next two weeks heading into Heps. I challenged the team before the race to have fun and enjoy the moment, they more than took me up on that challenge and it was impressive to watch."
Margaret Hock (45th; 22:59.3) and Lucy Huelskamp (84th; 23:55.4) also competed for Princeton.
Princeton will return to its home course for a third time in 2021 on October 30 when the Tigers host the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships at West Windsor.
