Women's Cross Country Takes Aim At Heps Saturday
October 28, 2021 | Women's Cross Country
Timing/Results
The Princeton women's cross country team is looking to peak at the right time this weekend, with the Ivy League's Heptagonal Championships set to be contested at West Windsor Fields on campus on October 30. The women's race goes off at 11 a.m. with the men's race to follow at noon.
Princeton has won nine Heps cross country championships, the most all-time by an Ivy program. The first came in 1978, part of a three-peat for the Tigers. Princeton's most recent Heps title came in 2015, kicking off a Triple Crown for the women's program. Princeton is looking for its first Heps win on its home course, the Tigers have a pair of second-place finishes at West Windsor in the Ivy championship meet, but have yet to claim a title in front of home fans.
While the Tigers have not finished first at Heps at West Windsor, they have a pair of victories on their home course during the 2021 season to build momentum off heading into this weekend. On September 11, the Tigers claimed the HYP meet by one point over Harvard. The Orange and Black followed that up with a convincing win in the Princeton Invitational on October 16 -- the Tigers finished first among the 21 teams competing, owning five of the top 12 finishes and besting second-place Dartmouth by 61 points.
The Tigers enter the weekend ranked No. 4 in the Mid-Atlantic Region in the latest USTFCCCA Regional Rankings. Also ranked regionally in the Heps field are No. 4 Harvard and No. 5 Columbia in the Northeast Region.
