Women's Tennis Has Strong Second Day at ITA Regionals

PHILADELPHIA – The Princeton University women's tennis team had a tremendous second day at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Regional Championship, winning eleven out of 13 of its matches Saturday at the Clay Hamlin Tennis Center in Penn Park.

Along with going 11-for-13 as a team, Princeton also had four advance to the Round of 16; senior Stephanie Schrage, sophomore Maia Shung, sophomore Neha Velaga and freshman Leena Bennetto.

In doubles, Sung and Bennetto continued their winning ways as they defeated Chloe Brown and Daria Cardenas of Rutgers, 8-3.

Sung and Bennetto also had a successful day in singles; Sung overcame Allyce Gaborik of Lehigh, 6-1, 6-2, along with Deniz Comlek of Buffalo, 4-6, 7-6, 10-6, while Bennetto earned a ,6-4, 6-1, victory over Jaida Borg of Niagara and a 6-0, 6-1 triumph over Renata Lombera of Drexel.

Schrage and Velaga also each earned a pair of wins, with Schrage downing LIU's Victoria Erechtchenko, 6-0, 6-7 (5), 10-8, along with Pennsylvania's Saige Roshkoff, 3-6, 6-2, 10-8, and Velaga prevailing over FDU's Marta Bettinelli, 6-0, 6-1, and LIU's Sofiya Kuzina 7-5, 6-3.

Two other Tigers also earned wins, as junior Grace Joyce defeated Gabriella Akopyan of Buffalo 6-2, 6-4 while sophomore Michelle Sorokko earned a 6-0, 6-3 win over Rutgers' Daria Cardenas.
