October 20, 2021 | Field Hockey
Ali McCarthy now has something of a triple-double from last weekend: two goals, two assists, two big honors.
McCarthy, who Monday was named the Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week, has now added the NFHCA Division I Offensive Player of the Week award as well. McCarthy is Princeton's second winner of the national award this year, after Beth Yeager won it earlier this season.
McCarthy had Princeton's first two goals in the 3-2 overtime win over Cornell Friday and then assisted on Princeton's first two goals in the 3-2 overtime win over No. 5 Penn State Sunday. McCarthy is now fifth in the Ivy League in both goals (seven) and assists (seven) and sixth in points (21).
The two wins last weekend stretched Princeton's unbeaten streak to five, of which three have come in overtime. Princeton is now 8-5 overall and 4-0 in the Ivy League heading into Saturday's showdown at Harvard, who is 11-1 overall and 4-0 in the league. No other league team has fewer than two Ivy losses.
The Tigers moved up to 14th in the coaches' poll this week. Harvard is ranked 12th.
