Princeton has a short road trip on the docket Wednesday as the Tigers trek down to Philly for a date with Temple at 7 p.m.
Princeton and Temple have met just twice all-time, each side posting a win. Temple's win was a 5-0 victory way back in 1951, while the Tigers have a more recent win to their credit via a 2-1 (OT) win in 2018. This is the first-ever meeting at Temple between the two teams.
The Tigers are 2-1 on the road this season, with wins in their last two contests away from Sherrerd Field. Most recently, Princeton pulled off a stunner in Hanover with a 3-2 win in double overtime. Malik Pinto had the game-winning goal in the 102nd minute -- his second marker of the day as he connected for the first two goals of his career. That effort earned him both Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week honors from the Ivy League.
Princeton is 4-2-0 over its last six games after dropping its opening two matches of the season. During that span, the Tigers are outscoring opponents, 11-5, and have three shutouts -- including a 1-0 win over a Penn State team which was receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Poll at the time.
The Tigers' win at Dartmouth was their first since 2013 -- giving Princeton three points in the first Ivy game of a season also for the first time since 2013.
Princeton is still carrying the play in terms of shots, owning a 124-68 edge in total shots, and averaging 15.5 shots-per-game to 8.5 per contest allowed. In terms of shots on goal, Princeton had sent 54 to target while conceding just 25.
10 different players have registered at least one point for Princeton this season, five of which did not play for the Tigers the last time they competed during 2019. The team lead in points is held by a pair of newcomers in Francis Akomeah-Sirleaf and Malik Pinto who each have five.
Scouting Temple
The Owls are 1-5-2 overall this season and are off to a 0-4-0 start in the American Athletic Conference. After a pair of scoreless draws with No. 10 Seton Hall and Rutgers to start the season, Temple is 1-5-0 in its last six games, and winless altogether in its last five. The Owls have scored six goals over their eight games, led by Mike Eijgendaal and Nigel Griffith who each have two. Liam Cummings has started the last four matches in goal, with a 2.75 GAA and .542 save percentage.
