Dina Rizzo Elevated To Associate Head Coach Of Princeton Field Hockey
October 07, 2021 | Field Hockey
Dina Rizzo has a resume that's filled with words like "NCAA champion," "Olympian," Hall of Fame" and "Final Four." Wherever she has gone, winning has come with her.
Â
Now that same resume has added another few words under where it says "Princeton Field Hockey." Now to that she can add "Associate Head Coach."
Â
Rizzo, in her sixth year at Princeton, has now been elevated to Associate Head Coach for the Tigers.
Â
"Dina is such an integral part of our program," says Tiger head coach Carla Tagliente, a former teammate of Rizzo's when the two played at the University of Maryland. "She has earned everyone's respect through her work ethic, her demeanor, the way she carries herself and the way she cares for every athlete in our program. She is exactly the kind of person you want to represent you, and I'm thrilled that she is now the Associate Head Coach."
Â
Rizzo is already a member of the U.S. Field Hockey Hall of Fame, having been inducted in 2016 after a playing career that saw her make 157 appearances for the U.S. national team and play in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. She also won an NCAA championship at Maryland, with Tagliente as her teammate.
Â
Her coaching career saw her spend time at UMass, helping the program into the national Top Ten, before going back to her alma mater and helping the team to NCAA titles in 2010 and 2011. She came to Princeton with Tagliente in 2016 and has helped the Tigers to three Final Fours and the 2019 NCAA championship game.
Â
"I am honored to work with our exceptional student-athletes and incredible young women at such an elite institution," Rizzo says. "I take great pride in doing my part to influence and enhance the development of leadership and the resulting character it reveals. It is humbling for me to be recognized in such a way by Coach Tagliente. I embrace the opportunity and its added responsibility to further serve our student-athletes. I want to thank the administration for supporting my appointment. I am excited about the future of the Princeton field hockey program and the accountability that comes with it."
Â
The 2021 Tigers are currently 5-5 overall and 2-0 in the Ivy League heading into Saturday's game at Dartmouth.
