Men's Basketball Downs South Carolina at Asheville Championship, 66-62

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – In its opening game at the Asheville Championship, the Princeton University men's basketball team downed the University of South Carolina Friday night inside Harrah's Cherokee Center, 66-62.
In a back-and-forth contest that featured seven lead changes, senior Jaelin Llewellyn led the Tigers with 16 points on 5-for-9 shooting from the field, including a 4-for-8 effort from three, while also tying for the team-high in rebounds with nine. Junior Ryan Langborg also made four three pointers and added 13 points, tying his career-high from the Tigers' game at Indiana University on Wednesday, November 20, 2019, while junior Tosan Evbuomwan stuffed the stat sheet with a career-highs across the board; 12 points, nine rebounds, and four assists. As a team, the Tigers showed their depth as their bench outscored South Carolina's, 19-12.
Llewellyn knocked won a three-pointer from the right wing for the Tigers' opening basket of the night with 17:35 on the clock, making it a 4-3 game early. South Carolina would then extend its lead to 10, but a three-point play by Evbuomwan at 12:38 made it a 17-9 game.
Sparked by a Langborg three-pointer at 10:37, the Tigers went on an 8-0 run that made it a 19-17 contest with 9:06 left to play. With 6:43 on the clock, junior Keeshawn Kellman took off two feet and dunked over a Gamecock defender, giving the Tigers a 22-21 advantage. Senior Ethan Wright then extended the Tigers' lead to 25-21, knocking down a three-pointer at 6:15. Princeton held off South Carolina for the remainder of the half, and took a 31-25 lead into halftime.
Evbuomwan opened the second half with a successful foray to the basket with 19:43 on the clock, giving the Tigers a 33-25 advantage. The Gamecocks would then go on a 10-0 run, taking a 35-33 lead with at 13:39, but another Langborg three-pointer saw Princeton re-take the lead with 12:37 remaining, 38-37. The two teams continued to trade the lead, as a pair of Wright free throws with 10:13 left to play giving the Tigers a 43-42 advantage.
A 9-0 run sparked by a Lanborg three-pointer at 8:14 gave the Tigers a 53-46 advantage with 6:27 remaining, then three Evbuomwan free throws with 4:38 on the clock gave Princeton an eight-point advantage, 56-48. With 2:42 remaining, Llewellyn completed a four-point play to extend Princeton's lead to nine at 61-52. From there, the Tigers would hold on for the victory, 66-62.
