Yeager, Tornetta To Represent USA At Pan American Cup
December 22, 2021 | Field Hockey
The Princeton field hockey team has a long history of being represented on the international level, and that tradition will be added to next month in Chile.
Beth Yeager, who was recently named an NFHCA first-team All-American, and Julianna Tornetta, a 2021 graduate who competed this past season as a grad student at Maryland, will play for the United States at the Pan American Cup beginning January 19th in Santiago. The United States team will be a rebuilt one, with only three players back from the team that played in the 2017 version of the event.
The top three teams at the tournament will advance to the Field Hockey Women's World Cup this coming July in Spain and the Netherlands.
Yeager will be returning from an injury that forced her to miss the final three games of her freshman season. Despite that, she still set a Princeton record for goals by a freshman with 16, as she finished second in Division I in points per game and third in Division I in goals per game, leading the Ivy League in both.
Tornetta was a three-time first-team All-Ivy League selection and two-time All-American while playing three seasons at Princeton, helping the Tigers to the NCAA Final Four in two of those years. She also returned to the Final Four this past year with the Terrapins.
The United States is in Group B of the eight-team event, along with Canada, Mexico and Peru. Group A features Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and Trinidad and Tobago. The championship game will be held Jan. 30th, and every game in the tournament will be available via videostreaming, with more information to be announced.
