U23 Results | Pan-American Results
Saturday was a day of wins of international proportions for Princeton-connected wrestlers, with rising junior Patrick Glory winning the U.S. U23 title at 57kg and assistant coach Nate Jackson won the Pan-American Championships title at 92kg.
Glory's win earns him the chance to test himself against his counterparts from around the world with a spot on USA Wrestling's team at the United World Wrestling U23 World Championship, set for Nov. 1-7 in Belgrade, Serbia.
Named the event's outstanding wrestler, Glory defeated five opponents to take the title at the U23 Nationals, which wrapped up Saturday at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Neb., getting wins against three of them without giving up a point and getting wins against four of them by 10-point margins. The win in the best-of-three final came with 8-0 and 10-0 wins over Taylor LaMont, a junior in 2020-21 at Utah Valley.
Glory was one of seven Tigers to earn All-American honors at the event, along with fellow rising juniors Quincy Monday, Travis Stefanik and Jake Marsh, rising sophomores Matt Cover and Nick Kayal, and incoming freshman Luke Stout.
Monday, at 74kg, finished runner-up, winning five times to reach the final against Peyton Robb, a sophomore at host Nebraska in 2020-21. Robb took the first two matches of the best-of-three 12-3 and 7-5.
Kayal, also at 57kg, won three times to make the semis before falling to LaMont, one round short of an all-Tiger final. Kayal finished sixth.
Marsh, at 79kg, won three times to reach the quarters before finishing eighth. Stefanik, at 86kg, won once in the main bracket before a loss in the round of 16, and then won three consolation matches to reach the consolation round of four and take the seventh-place bout with an injury win.
Stout, at 92kg, won twice to reach the quarterfinals before adding a consolation win and a win in the seventh-place bout.
Cover, at 125kg, won once to reach the round of 16 and won two consolation matches to make the seventh-place bout before finishing eighth.
Rising junior Sean Pierson competed at 57kg but was defeated in his two matches, Marshall Keller won three times to reach the quarterfinals at 65kg, rising junior Grant Cuomo won twice to reach the round of 16 at 74kg, rising sophomore Brandon Spellman competed at 61kg but was defeated in his two matches, rising senior Kendall Elfstrum competed at 92kg but was defeated in his three matches, and rising sophomore Jack DelGarbino competed at 125kg but was defeated in his two matches.
At the Pan-American Championships in Guatemala City, Guatemala, Jackson represented the U.S. at 92kg, competing with wrestlers from Mexico, Canada, Panama and Venezuela. Jackson defeated two of his opponents, from Mexico and Canada, 10-0, and the other two by forfeit to finish atop the pool and win gold.
