EUGENE, Ore. – Senior Obiageri Amaechi of the Princeton University women's track & field team earned All-America honors in the discus for the second time in her career Saturday night when she was named Second Team All-America at the NCAA Championships inside Hayward Stadium.
Amaechi finished 13th, with her best throw of 54.83 meters coming on her second attempt after she bounced back from a foul on her first throw. Amaechi's third throw went 53.33 meters.
"I couldn't be more proud of how Obi represented herself and Princeton these past four years," said Head Coach Michelle Eisenreich. "The 2021 NCAA Championship is just another example of her resilience and determination. Of course, we had the goal of making finals so there is some disappointment. However, when we look back at what she had to overcome just to get to this meet this year, she certainly has much to be proud of. She has learned so much these past four years, I can't wait to see what the future holds for her as she finishes her collegiate career at UNC next year and the many more years ahead of her as a post collegiate thrower."
The outdoor school record holder in the discus, Amaechi has had an outstanding career at Princeton. She was a first-team All-America honoree in 2018 and is a three-time NCAA Championships qualifier. The Ivy League outdoor champion in discus in 2019, she was also Ivy League outdoor runner-up in 2018 and indoor runner-up in the shot put in 2019, an event she holds a program all-time top-five mark in. Amaechi was also a two-time USTFCCCA All-Academic selection.
