Tokyo Olympics Preview: Men’s Track & Field

PRINCETON, N.J. – Ed Trippas and Sondre Guttormsen of the Princeton University men's track & field team along with alumni Nathan Crumpton '08 are set to compete in Tokyo at the Olympic Games.
Trippas, who is representing Australia, will compete in round one of the 3,000-meter steeplechase on Thursday, July 29, at 8 p.m. Representing Norway, Guttormsen will compete in the qualification round of the pole vault at 8:40 p.m. on Friday, July 30. Crumpton, who is representing American Samoa, competes on Saturday, July 31, at 10:35 p.m. in the 100 meters.
Should Trippas advance to the final of the steeplechase, he will compete at 8:15 a.m. on Monday, August 2. Guttormsen would compete in the final of the pole vault at 6:20 a.m. on Tuesday, August 3.
Trippas earned Honorable Mention All-America honors in the steeplechase in 2019 and competed in the event at the NCAA East Regional in both 2019 and 2018. He was the Ivy League Champion and earned First Team All-Ivy League honors in the steeplechase in 2019, and was the Ivy League Runner-Up and earned Second Team All-Ivy League honors in the 5,000 meters at Indoor Heps in 2020. Trippas also added valuable points for the Tigers in the 3,00 meters (Indoor Heps 2019 & 2020), the 4x800 meter relay (Outdoor Heps 2020) and the steeplechase (Outdoor Heps 2018). He has also made an impact on the cross-country trails, as he was NCAA Championships Participant in 2018, earning Second Team All-Ivy League honors in the same season. Trippas will captain the cross-country team in fall 2021.
Guttormsen is both the Princeton and Norwegian record holder in the pole vault. During his freshman year at UCLA he was a Second Team All-America honoree during the indoor and outdoor season, and was the Pac-12 and MPSF Champion. Guttormsen also holds the UCLA indoor school record.
Crumpton ranks No. 8 on Princeton's outdoor all-time triple jump list and has had a successful career as a skeleton racer, where he earned five USA National Team Berths and was a three-time World Championships Finalist.
