Koelzer '17 to Add NHL Scout to Résumé
July 22, 2021 | Women's Ice Hockey
Already with an impressive résumé in the sport of hockey, Kelsey Koelzer '17 will add another line of note as she has joined the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks as a scout in the team's player personnel department.
One of Koelzer's duties as part of her welcome to the organization will be to announce one of the team's picks at the NHL Draft, which will hold its first round on Friday, July 23 and its second through seventh rounds on Saturday, July 24.
The Blackhawks' announcement can be found here.
Koelzer will remain as the head coach of the Arcadia University program, which is set to begin its inaugural season of competition this fall. In taking that position, she became the first Black woman to serve as an NCAA hockey head coach.
Koelzer's role with the Blackhawks is far from her first in professional hockey. After playing for the National Women's Hockey League's Metropolitan Riveters for three seasons from 2016-19 and with the Professional Women's Hockey Players Association for a season thereafter, Koelzer was named an advisor to the NWHL's commissioner on the area of diversity and inclusion.
While at Princeton, Koelzer was an AHCA first-team All-America honoree and the 2016 Ivy League Player of the Year, helping lead the Tigers to the Ivy League title and an NCAA tournament bid that season. Koelzer stands third on Princeton's list for most career points by a defenseman, with 100.
